Perth Shamrock’s played the WA Kentz State Final against last year’s winners Imokilly on the 10th August.
Imokilly played in aid of a strong breeze in the first half, which put pressure on the Shamrock boys from the start. Some great hooking & blocking from the forwards paid off, as Chris Kavanagh pointed from the side line. A fine long range score from Willy O’ Dea put the minimum between the sides & kept Shamrocks in touch.
Tom Triggs made a fine save from a Michael Farrell free resulting in a 65, which was taken short, but Niall Kelly made a fantastic block which won Shamrocks a free. Some great pressure from Shane O Mahoney & Keith Dwyer made space for Niall Kelly who pointed from the 45 which left the half time score 0-5 a piece.
Shamrocks got two quick scores at the beginning of the second half from Gary White which gave the boys in green some confidence. Mark Fitzgerald pointed a number of frees & score from play, which Imokilly responded straight away. Liam O Sullivan, Liam Leahy & Michael Doherty where snapping every ball in defence which was delivered to our forwards.
With 3 points between the teams, Imokilly pressed for a goal. A great block & good wrist work from Sean Lahert stopped Imokilly from a certain goal & from the resulting clearance Shane O Mahoney pointed for Perth Shamrocks. Kevin Ryan, Darren Kennelly & Stephen Heffernan kept the Imokilly danger line at bay.
Overall, drive & ambition sealed the win for Perth Shamrocks, which made them the WA State Final Champions of 2013.
